How to get more Google reviews for your shop (the honest way)
People choose between shops on Google Maps by the stars and how recent the reviews are. Most happy customers will leave a review, they just don't think of it. The trick is asking at the right moment and making it take ten seconds.
Step by step
- 1
Get your review link
Open your Google Business Profile, find "Ask for reviews" or "Get more reviews", and copy the link. It opens the review box for your shop directly.
- 2
Put a QR card at the counter
Turn the link into a QR code on a small card: your shop's name, five stars and "Scan to review us on Google". Put it where people pay.
- 3
Ask in person, right after a good moment
When a customer says thank you, compliments a haircut or a meal, or is a regular, ask: "Would you mind leaving us a quick review on Google? It really helps."
- 4
Send the link on WhatsApp the same day
A short message with their name and the link works better than a general post. Send it while the visit is fresh.
- 5
Reply to every review
Thank people by name for good ones. For a bad one, apologise for the experience, keep it short and calm, and offer to sort it out offline. Future customers read your replies.

Get these right
- Never buy reviews or post fake ones, and don't ask family or staff to review you. Google removes them and can suspend the listing.
- Don't offer a discount, gift or free item in return for a review. Google's rules don't allow it.
- Ask everyone, not only people you expect to give five stars. Picking only happy customers ("review gating") is also against Google's rules.
- A steady few reviews every week beats a sudden burst, and recent reviews count for more.

Questions
Can I pay for Google reviews?
No. Paying for reviews, or giving anything in return, breaks Google's rules and can get reviews removed or the listing suspended.
Can I delete a bad review?
You can't delete a customer's review. You can reply politely, and if it breaks Google's rules (spam, abuse, not a real customer), report it from your Business Profile for Google to check.
How many reviews does a shop need?
There's no fixed number. What helps is a steady flow of recent, genuine reviews and replies to them, compared with other shops near you.
